Do Unto Others Before They Do Unto You

Do an Internet search on this famous quote and you will find several results about “The Golden Rule”.

Do unto others before they do unto you.

Go one step further and you will find references to the words of Jesus. But is this The Golden Rule? And furthermore is this even in the Bible, or not?

I’m sure most readers of our blog recognize this as a play on words, simply replacing the word “as” with the word “before”. And this is also a famous saying describing the practice of staying ahead of the competition in careers and business, or said just as a joke. Funnily enough, there’s an old Sylvester Stallone movie, Oscar (1991), where he uses this line. So, this is Not a Bible quote.

The true Golden Rule saying did come from the Bible where Jesus says:

In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you. – Matthew 7:12 NIV

And yes, this rule actually does work much better than the “do unto others before they do unto you” rule. Enjoy!
