I Have Escaped by the Skin of My Teeth

How many times have we heard someone say:

“I have escaped by the skin of my teeth.”

Is it in the Bible or not? And while you’re thinking about it, here are a bunch more skin of my teeth quotes.

“I just made it by the skin of my teeth.”

“I won the game by the skin of my teeth.”

“I passed the test by the skin of my teeth.”

“I survived by the skin of my teeth.”

Hmmm… published this post by the skin of my teeth! 🙂

  1. The quote “I have escaped by the skin of my teeth” is a Bible verse from the book of Job. See Job 19:20 NKJV. I was surprised by how many of my family and friends thought this quote was not from the Bible.

BTW, do teeth really have skin anyway? I think that’s the point – there is no skin so the margin of escape is as small as it can be.
