There are times in life when someone may have wronged you. It happens to us all. It may be small and easy to forget, or it may be so big that it’s life-changing. Our natural response is to seek justice and perhaps even vengeance. Our emotions and our minds drive this thinking, but is this the right path to take?
“I will have my vengeance in this life or the next.” – Bible or Not?
While you think about whether today’s quote is in the Bible or not, it reminds me of another famous quote from scripture. In writing to the Romans, the Apostle Paul teaches us to put aside vengeance and wrath.
“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.” – Romans 12:19 NKJV
It is admittedly hard to give place to wrath and not seek vengeance. But as Christians, it is what we are taught by the writers of the Bible – no one ever said it would be easy. This is where Godly patience and true faith come in, truly believing that God knows the situation and has us covered. His justice will prevail, and that is a matter of faith.
The quote, “I will have my vengeance in this life or the next“, is a quote from the movie Gladiator starring Russel Crowe. Below is the clip from the movie. Another famous Russel Crowe movie quote comes from Robin Hood: rise and rise again until lambs become lions. Enjoy!

For some reason this clip won’t show as an embedded video. Maybe it’s because it’s HD but I can’t figure it out. If anyone knows why this Youtube clip won’t work with the post, but others do, it would be really cool of you to leave a comment to explain. Thanks!
