Thank you to Cale for submitting today’s quote. The Old Testament is filled with accounts of battles, war and death. From Genesis through to the post-Babylonian era we read accounts of war and conquest.
“Only the dead have seen the end of War.” – Bible or Not?
The accounts of war don’t end with the close of the Old Testament – turn to the prophesies of Jesus or the Book of Revelation. There will be “wars and rumors of wars”, and the first two horseman of the Apocalypse: Conquest and War. When will we see the end of war? According to the author of this quote, not until we are dead.
“Only the dead have seen the end of War.” – Popularly attributed to Plato
While this quote is most often credited to Plato, I was unable to find any references to the original source. I was able to find references to Santayana’s “Soliloquies in England” (1924), General Douglas MacArthur’s farewell address (1962) and the movie Black Hawk Down (2001).
