Death and Taxes, God and Caesar

I almost lost track, today is April 15th, tax day in the U.S. Which brings to mind these two famous quotes:

“In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” – Benjamin Franklin Quote

“Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.” – Matthew 22:21 KJV

So, today is the day we render unto “Caesar” (or give unto our presidents) by paying our taxes. And the day we die is the day we ultimately render unto God what is His. Of these two things we can be sure.

Be Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves

An earlier post talked about how a malicious man disguises himself, with the intent to deceive and harm others. Today’s Bible or Not quote is a popular saying that helps us to deal with that. Jesus said:

“Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” – Matthew 10:16 NKJV

The original serpent in the garden caused the downfall of mankind – Satan disguised himself, deceived Eve, and brought suffering upon all mankind. Is Jesus saying that we should be “wise” like that? In a word, yes. But it’s all about intent. Read more…
