With this year being 2012 there have been a lot more “Dooms Day Prophesies” shows on TV. Whether it’s about the Mayan calendar, Nostradamus, the I Ching, aliens or the Bible, it’s hard to flip through the channels and not come across one. Here is a quote that many of us have heard watching such shows.
“And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood.” – Revelation 8:10-11
So should we be worried about the end of the world? In a word, “no”.
Let me clarify. First, Jesus Himself said that no one knows, except God the Father, when the end of this age will be. So, we cannot put any stock in those who are giving us dates for the end. Second, tomorrow is not promised to anyone. For all we know, the end could come tomorrow (God forbid) for any of us. The reason we shouldn’t be worried about the end of the world is that we should be living our lives as though it could happen at any time.
I think Benjamin Franklin said it best: “Work as if you were to live a hundred years, pray as if you were to die tomorrow”. If we lived every day as close to God as we can, then there would be no reason to worry about when the end will come. We also wouldn’t be complacently wasting our lives away. What do you believe?
